Education in Hanoi

Apart from being the capital of vietnam Hanoi is also the main center for education in the country. the city is home to a number of educational institutes ranging from primary schools of institutes for advanced learning and education. There are a number of universities in the city that have carved their niche in the world of education. Students from different parts of Vietnam come to Hanoi for higher education. The universitites of Hanoi are also prefered by many international students.

Hanoi is the largest centre of education in Vietnam. approximately 62 % of the scientists in the whole country are living as well as working in Hanoi. In Hanoi the admission process to undergraduate study are done through entrance examinations. These entrance examinations which are conducted annually. Generally these examinations are open for every student who has successfully completed his or her secondary education. Most of the universities in Hanoi are public universities. However, in recent years a number of private universities have also been established in the city. Thang Long university, is the first private university in Vietnam. It was founded in the year 1988, by some Vietnamese mathematics professors in Hanoi and France.

As many of Vietnam's major universities are located in Hanoi, students from other provinces who wish to enter university generally come to the capital city to sit for the annual entrance examination. Such events often take place in June and July. During this time during which a large number of students and their families come to the city for several weeks around this intense examination period. In recent years, these entrance exams have been centrally coordinated by the Ministry of Education, but passing marks are decided independently by each university.
